Testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) is the process of determining and optimizing the quantitative performance of HVAC systems and equipment.

The Certified Testing-Adjusting-Balancing (CTAB) Professional Achievement             award provides special recognition for professionals who demonstrate a high          level of knowledge, experience, competence, and ethical fitness covering the             full spectrum of activities related to the testing, adjusting and balancing process.

 

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM CTAB TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION?

  • HVAC and related company owners interested in establishing or upgrading a test and balance business.
  • Facility managers or engineers charged with balancing for occupancy comfort, process function, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency.
  • Test and balance engineers, managers, supervisors, or lead technicians who desire certification for professional advancement or need a review course in preparation of other TAB certification.

 

 Each candidate for CTAB  Professional Achievement certification must

  1. submit a written application to include resume or curriculum vitae, verification of employment and letters of reference.                              
  2. pass the CTAB Home Study Course or attend a CTAB seminar or workshop.
  3. pass a written open-book exam for the certification desired.
  4. meet one of the following:                                                                    
  • A four year engineering degree, with at least one year experience in HVAC testing-adjusting-balancing. 
  • A four year business or related degree, with at least two years experience in HVAC testing-adjusting-balancing.  
  • A two year HVAC (or related) technical degree, with at least two years experience in HVAC testing-adjusting-balancing.  
  • Three years field, management or engineering experience in HVAC testing-adjusting-balancing.

CTAB - AIR                                              3 Hour Exam

CTAB - AIR & WATER                           4 Hour Exam

CTAB - AIR & VAV                                 4 Hour Exam

CTAB - AIR & CR/FH                             4 Hour Exam

CTAB - AIR, WATER, VAV, CR/FH     5 Hour Exam

CTAB examination questions are based on concepts and experiences basic to testing, adjusting, and balancing using recognized TAB standards and methods. Exams cover air and water systems and equipment, as well as the controls associated with TAB. Exams are open book and questions are a mixture of multiple choice and true-false. Candidates must answer 70% of questions correctly in order to achieve a passing score.
